The inaugural session of Artist INC in Kansas will conclude Tuesday, May 10 at the Lawrence Arts Center. The program will conclude with a night of Pecha Kucha presentations by participating artists. Pecha Kucha is a fast paced presentation style, developed in Tokyo, in which 20 slides are shown for 20 seconds each.
Artists from Douglas and Shawnee Counties were selected for the program through a competitive application process and a panel comprised of community arts leaders and artists, representing a range of artistic disciplines. The participants have been working very hard for the past seven weeks to strengthen their artistic careers with tools and skills in arts planning, marketing, finance, law and technology.
Artist INC is a cutting-edge training program that addresses the specific business needs and challenges of artists. Limited to 25 participants, artists gather once a week for eight weeks to learn business skills specific to their art practice and apply those skills cooperatively with their peers.
Artist INC is a collaborative partnership of ArtsKC-Regional Arts Council, Charlotte Street Foundation, the UMKC Innovation Center, and Mid-America Arts Alliance.
Through a partnership with Mid-America Arts Alliance and local arts organizations, Artist INC has expanded its reach to communities throughout the Midwest. Artist INC programming in Kansas is made possible, in part, through funding from the Kansas Creative Arts Industries Commission and is administered locally through a partnership with the Lawrence Arts Center.
