KANSASWORKS Mobile Center to visit 3i Show

The Kansas Department of Commerce will exhibit its KANSASWORKS Mobile Center, a custom-built RV designed as a traveling workforce services office, at the 2011 3i Show from May 4-6 at the Finney County Fairgrounds in Garden City.

The 38-foot Mobile Center includes 11 Internet-ready computer stations to assist job candidates and employers; an internal public address system and interactive SMART Board™ for presentations inside the Center; and high-definition TV and external speakers for presentations outside the Center.

The Mobile Center allows the Department to provide workforce services in regions of the state that lack permanent workforce services offices or face unusually high demand for workforce assistance due to mass layoff, business closure, natural disaster or demographic shift. KANSASWORKS personnel accompany the Mobile Center and are available to provide career counseling and resumé assistance. The Mobile Center can also be used throughout the state for job fairs, career development workshops, tutorials, skills training and other employment services.

“The Mobile Center gives us a cost efficient way to bring our staff and services to areas of the state where KANSASWORKS does not have a permanent presence,” said Commerce Secretary Pat George. “The career counseling and other services that are provided can make a critical difference in displaced workers finding new career opportunities.”

The unit is ADA-compliant and climate-controlled for all seasons. It was custom-modified and designed by Ferber Specialty Vehicles.

The 3i Show, held each May and managed by the Western Kansas Manufacturers Association, provides an opportunity for exhibitors from around the world to showcase their agri-business products. The free show is the largest of its kind in Kansas. The Finney County Fairgrounds are located at 409 Lake Avenue, Garden City, Kan. 67846.
