Sweet Success! Mars North America to open manufacturing facility in Topeka

Kansas Commerce Secretary Pat George congratulated Mars Chocolate North America after it announced today that it will locate a new manufacturing facility in Topeka, and expects to hire 200 full-time employees during the first phase of the expansion.

“This is an exciting day for Topeka and Kansas,” George said. “We are very pleased that Mars North America will locate a manufacturing facility in our state. This was a partnership between the city, the state and the company to make this project a reality, and it will have a huge impact on Kansas for years to come. This decision speaks highly of Topeka as a community and the quality of the workforce we have in our capital city.”

This will be a state-of-the-art facility, located in Topeka’s Kanza Fire Commerce Park, and reflects the company’s commitment to invest in U.S. manufacturing. The facility will be the first new chocolate site built in the United States in 35 years. The first phase of the new site is planned to be complete by 2013 and will manufacture M&M’s and Snickers brand candies. Mars expects to make a capital investment of more than $250 million during the first phase.
