Kansas Small Business Empowerment Tour ready to highlight state’s new business environment

The Kansas Small Business Empowerment Tour will take place Sept. 11 and 12 as state officials reach out to small business owners and individual Kansans about changes to the state’s business and tax environment over the past 18 months.

“There has been a great deal of change in the past 18 months as we’ve worked to create a business environment that is welcoming to businesses and helps promote private sector job growth,” said Kansas Commerce Secretary Pat George. “The enactment of tax reform to help small businesses and individuals was huge, and we know there are a lot of questions. We want to visit with Kansans to answer their questions.”

WHAT: The Kansas Small Business Empower Tour. State officials will meet with small business owners, economic development officials and the public about the latest changes and developments to the state’s business climate, including:

• Tax reform changes for 2013 enacted by the Kansas Legislature earlier this year.
• The latest on the state’s efforts to recruit businesses to Kansas and create job growth.
• An update on the Rural Opportunity Zones program.

WHO: Commerce Secretary Pat George; Revenue Secretary Nick Jordan, Labor Secretary Karin Brownlee; and Securities Commissioner Aaron Jack.

WHEN/WHERE: The tour will visit the following cities:

Sept. 11:

7:45 a.m. – Manhattan: Flint Hills Discovery Center Classroom 2nd Floor, 315 South 3rd Street.

10:45 a.m. – Norton: Conference Room, Sleep Inn and Suites, 201 East Holme St.

1 p.m. – Hays: Stauffer Lounge, Room 222, Memorial Hall, Fort Hays State University, 700 College Drive.

4 p.m. – Dodge City: Occident Room, Boot Hill Museum and Front Street, 500 West Wyatt Earp Blvd.

Sept. 12:

8 a.m. – Hutchinson: Kansas Farm Service Association, 1515 East 30th Ave.

10 a.m. – Wichita: Wichita Metro Chamber of Commerce Board Room, 350 W. Douglas Ave.

1 p.m. – Independence: Memorial Hall, 410 N. Penn. Ave.
