Creative Arts Industries Commission announces first grant awards

The Kansas Creative Arts Industries Commission (CAIC) has awarded grants to eight organizations across the state. Grants to the organizations totaled $58,400. Grantees were selected by the advisory board of the CAIC through an application and review process.

“The advisory board determined that the grant recipients were in a position to cultivate the creative arts in Kansas,” said Kansas Labor Secretary and Chairwoman of the CAIC advisory board Lana Gordon. “This round of grants will help these organizations implement projects that will strengthen the state’s economy.”

The CAIC’s mission is to support the creative industries sector of the Kansas economy. The advisory board is dedicated to measuring, promoting, supporting and expanding the creative industries to grow the state’s economy and generate creative industry-related jobs.

“The eight grant recipients demonstrated the value of supporting their projects,” Kansas Commerce Secretary Pat George said. “Through these grants, the CAIC is supporting the growth of the creative arts and the Kansas economy.”

The grant recipients are:

Arkansas City Area Arts Council, Arkansas City, $10,000
The Arkansas City Area Arts Council will transform two retail units on the ground level of the Burford Commercial Building to provide space for two incubator businesses and make other improvements. The two businesses will be used for Arts Council classes and exhibits, while providing a sustainable revenue stream.
