New automotive manufacturing company Van-Rob will bring 75 jobs to Shawnee

Kansas will welcome a new automotive parts manufacturing company, Van-Rob, to Shawnee. The company, headquartered in Toronto, Canada, is occupying 75,000-square-feet in the Switzer II Building at 10601 W. 79th Street in the Nieman Business Park area. With this opening, Van-Rob will bring an initial 75 jobs with expected growth of more than 100, and more than $4 million in capital investment to the city.

“On behalf of the Brownback Administration, I welcome Van-Rob to Shawnee and Kansas,” said Kansas Commerce Secretary Pat George. “This expansion is welcome news, and it will strengthen the automotive industry in the greater Kansas City region. I wish Van-Rob continued success in the future.”

“Van-Rob will be a great asset to the City of Shawnee,” said Mayor Jeff Meyers. “We are looking forward to working with a company that has such an outstanding history in the automotive industry. We are very honored to be a part of this company’s foundation and future investment.”

According to a release by Van-Rob, Shawnee was selected as the site for the new manufacturing operation based on new business awards and proximity to Van-Rob’s customer, General Motors Fairfax Assembly Plant. Van-Rob welcomes the opportunity to be an integral part of the City of Shawnee business community and partnering in its future economic development.

“We enthusiastically welcome Van-Rob to Shawnee,” said Pat Daniel’s, Founding Principle of The Land Source and Chairman of the Shawnee Economic Development Council Executive Committee. “As one of the rising stars in automotive component supplies, this outstanding Canadian company will find the work ethic, productivity, and all-around desirability of Kansas City, and Shawnee in particular, to be an outstanding choice in their growing business empire. We have the added bonus of welcoming a business with a strong history of positive community involvement.”

As a supplier to the major automobile manufacturers, Van-Rob designs and manufactures metal stampings, modular and structural welded assemblies, and heat shields, primarily for the General Motors plant in Fairfax.

“The Kansas City area welcomes Van-Rob to our business community and appreciates the company’s recognition of our skilled workforce and transportation assets,” said Chris Gutierrez, KC SmartPort President. The Kansas City Area Development Council worked closely with the state of Kansas and the city of Shawnee to bring this new facility to Shawnee.
Hiring will begin in August, with production later this year. Along with the Department of Commerce, the Shawnee Economic Development Council partnered on this project with David Hinchman, CB Richard Ellis, representing Van-Rob; Phil Algrim, NAI Capital Realty, representing the property; Kansas City Area Development Council, and Kansas City Power & Light.
