Workforce AID (Aligned with Industry Demand)
Industry demand for skilled workers in Kansas is significant. We have a shortage. To fill the skills gap in our workforce, the Kansas Department of Commerce and the Kansas Board of Regents are working in partnership with Kansas companies to train and deliver skilled, certified workers.

Workforce AID (Aligned with Industry Demand) supports Kansas' strategic plan for economic development, keeping Kansas businesses competitive and promoting a more robust economy.

Employers in Kansas are leading the way to close the skills gap using lessons learned in supply chain management. Check out this new video produced by USCCF Education and Workforce about efforts underway in Kansas.

The four components to the success of Workforce AID:

1. Employer Driven: Employers drive the training process, outlining skills and industry-recognized credentials their employees need for success. Short term, highly focused training programs result in college credit and industry-recognized credentials.

2. Single Point of Contact: Kansas empowers the liaison position supported by Commerce and Regents - a national best practice as cited by the Brookings Institution - to coordinate and leverage connections among employers, colleges and local workforce development boards for results.

3. Early Connections to Employers: Businesses and potential employees connect at the beginning and throughout the training process so participants can understand company culture and learn about job expectations and opportunities.

4. Education Linked to a Job: Participants who successfully complete training are guaranteed an interview with employers.

  • Over 50 companies from industries including food manufacturing, machining, welding, manufacturing production, industrial maintenance, and sheet metal assembly.
  • Over 150 participants have enrolled in training programs around the state, with many employers filling much-needed positions with skilled workers.
